The unofficial points listed - what does it mean

I am new to the site and like the fact it shows items for places I go. I see on each there is a list of the calorie counts and at the bottom there is something listed as unofficial pts. I assume this is some kind of counting but I can find any reference to what this exactly is and how many you should accumilate in a day. Can someone explain or send me to the right link onthe site to understand what it is and how to use it.
